By now I should be resigned to the fact that I (personally) should not attempt taking Christmas card photos of my family. Professional photographers exist for this very reason, yet I find myself attempting to create card-worthy photographs on my own. I took photography classes in high school and did very well. I even won a couple of local contests. However, enticing my children to cooperate while waiting for the self-timer to click is not one of my strong suits. We got one picture of the four of us that will have to suffice. It's clearly not great or artsy. Our normally exuberant, laughing Soren was subdued, to say the least. Nolan was smiling but his eyes are downcast (or are they closed?) Regardless, it's in the card making department at Shutterfly's hands now. No re-takes. No fancy editing. Just us, plain and simple.
My life is far from perfect but it's good, just like our Christmas card picture. The fact that my family isn't perfectly posed and smiling their best smiles is a more accurate representation of our everyday imperfect lives. We aren't the Cleavers or the Huxtables and that's OK. Frowns, shadows, downcast eyes and all.

I love your family photo and the ones of the boys! We tried the same thing and I ended up having to scrap them all.
